Larry Bentley Hood 3

Awaiting confirmation of if I'm kin to this hero. I share many physical traits as him and at Fort Chadbourne Texas I was told I'm kin. Would be so proud to say that I share blood with the Viking of Tennesee.

Great site, keep it up.

Just finished reading General Hood's "Advance and Retreat: Personal experiences in the United States and Confederate State Armies"...what a fantastic book and what wonderful insight into the man John Bell Hood. I have always admired General Hood for his willingness to go on the offensive at the tail end of the Atlanta Campaign. After reading this book, he is now one of my personal heroes. Glad to have found your sight and look forward to learning more about the life of this American hero.

I descend from the Wills family as did John Bell Hood since his grand mother Frances was the daughter of Frederick William Wills and she was married to Lucas Hood; I just made the connection so I am trying to read all I can about him now. I have many ancestors on both sides as we all do and we must honor all since our country is changing so much some do not honor what any of those that came before us did to make this the U.S.A. and all the blood that was spilled by all. We do an injustice to those that allowed us to live in a great country that they founded for future generations of their own families. Many do not even realize that the early settlers of Ky. were, for the most part, former Revolutionary War soldiers as was John Bell Hood' s gr grandfather and other relatives. This is a great site and Thank You for the info.

I find myself on my own little crusade to find out all that I can abour John Bell Hood. Just read "A Separate Country" a fictionalized story of him and his family. Need to learn the truth about him and his life after the Civil War and what became of his children. Fascinating what I have read in this website dedicated to a great man.

My grandmother was Fannie Ruth Runion. Her mother, my great grand mother, was Mary Hood, the sister of John Bell. Anyone with photos of her I would love to have. Please contact me for any information on Mary Hood at my e-mail address. Thank you very much. Sylvia McDowell

It seems to me that many authors have a "term paper" mindset when writing their historical works. These authors are not content to simply present the facts as they are; no, they are more interested in "proving their point." I agree with the publishers of this website that too many authors cherry-pick their facts, including only those that support their theses and ignoring anything to the contrary. These biases result in intellectually dishonest scholarship. I would like to thank the authors of this website for their critique of Wiley Sword's work, and I hope this encourages critiques of other authors' works, which I feel is sorely lacking.

Administrators note: Thank you Andrew. Indeed too many Civil War characters have been victimized by exploitative authors. The dead are not the only victims; so too are the unwitting readers who invest their time and money in books that are assumed to be accurate and complete.
